Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam , better known as Akon (pronounced / 'e? K? N /) (St. Louis, Missouri, April 16, 1973) is an American singer of Senegalese origin of hip hop, pop and R & B, composer, rapper, actor, businessman and music producer. He rose to fame in 2004 with the single Locked Up from his debut album Trouble.His second album, Konvicted, the single Smack That, for which he was nominated for the Grammy included. The single that led him to fame is I wanna love you, in collaboration with Snoop Dogg. He is the founder of Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. Akon is known for singing choirs and has worked in more than 175 songs, 40 of them included in the Billboard Hot 100. She sang at the charity song We Are The World 25 For Haiti and performed the song Chammak Challo for the movie Ra One in 2011 .
Biography
Percussionist Mor Thiam son, Akon grew up in a family dedicated to music and learned to play several instruments including the djembe. He born in St. Louis, Missouri, which had no immigration problem, but lived Sewer (Murcia), to seven years old. Notably, his family was Muslim, although he did not follow the Muslim religion. For a while he was between the United States and Senegal, Akon was finally settled in the North American country at 15 years old when he took up residence in Jersey City, New Jersey.
He also met street crime and came on a couple of occasions to jail. Akon used that time to channel their knowledge and musical insights. Upon his release, he made some demos that thanks to the efforts of his manager Devyne Stephens, they found a way to the offices of Universal. That was how his debut, 'Trouble' was conceived, appeared in 2004. It success 'Locked Up', directly inspired by his time spent behind bars was and 'Ghetto', 'Bananza' or 'Lonely' , all songs in the peculiar style that fuses rap Akon streets with elegant melodies of soul, production for the club and African rhythms was brewing. The album was multi-platinum, and went on to sell more than 3 million copies worldwide.
