Eminem is the stage name of Marshall Bruce Mathers, born in Kansas City on 17 October 1973. Eminem's name comes from the union of the two initials, M & M, pronounced in English. His childhood was not easy. He grew up in the absence of the father, who left home when he was six months, which refused to meet once reached celebrity. He lived in several states with his mother, Deborah Mathers-Briggs, until they settled in the suburbs of Detroit (Michigan), when he was twelve years old.
A life of film
The young Marshall grew very close to his grandmother, Betty Kresin (today, a regular commentator on the behavior of his grandson in the press of the American heart). Her relationship with her mother has been a constant source of conflict: he accuses her of lying and drug addict, and blames his constant changes to their inability to find steady work. Meanwhile, Briggs told the BBC that "fondled" her son, who was not home until twenty-five years.
Eminem
Eminem, who has a younger brother fifteen years, Nathan, was his close childhood friend in his uncle Ronnie, his age (his grandmother was the same year that his mother had him). In the early nineties, Ronnie, depressive tendencies, committed suicide. This episode caused the final rupture of relations Marshall with his mother, when she blamed him suicide.
At fourteen years old, Marshall began dating Kimberley Anne Scott (who was then only twelve), another central character in the world of Eminem. Their relationship has always been stormy, full of fights and reconciliations equally cumbersome: they married in June 1999; Eminem filed for divorce in August 2000; they reconciled at the end of the same year, and Kim filed for divorce in March 2001. In 1996 they had the girl Hailie Jade Mathers, the main object of worship of Eminem, for whose custody has undertaken bitter legal battles with Kim.
All these familiar details that in any other artist, would serve to enliven his biography or to make a psychological analysis of his work, have a particular meaning in the case of Eminem: these details "are" his work. In each disk, each letter, crumbles his own experiences, from childhood to the moment treading recording studio. Many of his songs are, for example, the experience of being a parent, although in other fantasizes kill his mother or Kim (in 97 Bonnie and Clyde mixes the voice of his daughter Hailie with verses in which he speaks of murdering the mother of this one). However, he has insisted that many of his lyrics are humorous and should not beunderstood literally.
Eminem, a white among black rappers
Marshall started rapping during his school years, encouraged by his inseparable Ronnie. At fourteen he left school and made his first steps with local bands like Basement Productions, the New Jacks or D12. He released his nom de guerre, Eminem, the album Infinite , published in 1996 by an independent label. His debut received poor reviews, dismissed as mere attempt to emulate the fashionable names in the hip hop scene in Detroit at the time, as Nas and AZ. However, he was not intimidated and won the first prize in the annual festival of hip hop Wake Up Show, and finished second in the Rap Olympics in Los Angeles, a feat for a target.
Sales Success
In his next album, The Slim Shady EP (1997), he developed his personal style and his lyrics launched furious attacks against the recording industry and detractors ofInfinite . The theme Just do not give a fuck became a hit on alternative radio, and Eminem was invited to participate in the success Five Star Generals , MC Shabaam Sahdeq, and disks Kid Rock and Missy Elliott.
In The Slim Shady LP (1999), his first album released in a large company (Aftermath / Interscope), first collaborated with producer Dr. Dre star. It was also his first blockbuster, accompanied by the scandal of the complaint he filed his mother, who accused him of his reputation cause emotional distress and damage offensive comments that he dedicated to the press. Deborah got to publish a CD-single calledSet the record straight ( 'Leave things clear'), and the case ended in settlement out of trial, when Eminem paid him $ 25,000.

His next album, The Marshall Mathers LP , debuted at number one in sales in theUnited States in May 2000. But his personal life was much more than talk: at theend of that year, hit with the butt of a gun to a man which, apparently, he was propasando with Kim. He was sentenced to two years probation, strict control of drug use and the continued assistance of a psychologist.

The soundtrack of the hit movie Eight Mile , directed by Curtis Hanson (director of LA Confidential and Wonder Boys), was another success, and even won an Oscar for best song.
Eight miles tells the story of a young white man who goes ahead as a singer rap, and is in many ways an autobiography of Eminem "8 Mile" is the name of the street that separates the rich suburbs of the poor in Detroit, and is where He lived.Naturally, the film also plays an important role the mother, tyrannical and unstable, played by Kim Basinger.
